RICHARD S. WILKENFELD, MD

After completing his residency in General Surgery, Dr Wilkenfeld was accepted in a Vascular Surgery fellowship with Dr. Michael DeBakey, at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Upon completion, he then established a private surgery practice in Conroe, Texas. Dr Wilkenfeld has been on most major hospital committees, as well as Chief of Staff at hospitals and outpatient surgery centers, as well as President of the Montgomery County Medical Society.

Initially offering Bariatric Surgery (weight related surgery), as part of his practice, he stopped due to skepticism with the procedures available at the time.  Several years ago he completed a Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School, and was then trained in the Lap Band Procedure. He subsequently performed the first Lap Band procedure in Montgomery County and has performed over 500 procedures since. He also is also trained in the Sleeve Gastrectomy, and the Realize Band.

He is affiliated with the American Institute of Gastric Banding, the world’s leader in outpatient lap band procedures. He is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Texas Association of Bariatric Surgeons and the Texas Medical Association as well as the Montgomery County Medical Society.
